Has anyone investigated the possibility of
importing a bunch of new or "as new"
second hand Estrellas from Japan ?

I know that transport is not a problem
(if you're not in a hurry...)
but what about legal regulations in your countries ?

New bikes in Germany have to fulfil the "EURO II".
That's the main reson why Estrellas can't be imported to Germany any more.
It would have been possible two years ago.

Someone (was it Blunt?) told us that the test costs about 2000 Euro. If the Estrella passes the test, everything's okay. If not, you have a bunch of metal without any use ...
