|I have recently purchased a 1995 Estrella, an import from Japan it is in good condition and I am enjoying it.
I also bought a spare engine that was on ebay. I have started rebuilding this engine. I have noticed the following problems:
1 Camchain wear
2 severe wear on camshaft itself
3 severe wear on both rockers
I noticed that the valve springs seem very strong?? (I also own a 1934 6cyl Wolseley with a 1600cc OHC Each bore works out at 266cc. so about the same as Estrella but the springs are about half the strength).
Could this be a reason why the Estrella suffers from excessive problems with wear in the valve train?

The reason for the cam / rocker arm wear is the following:

• non-ideal material pairing for given load/ lift acceleration (arm should get hard block)
• too low or zero oil pressure at speeds below 3000/4000 rpm with hot / thin oil
• if clearance is too high wear increases rapidly (if too small exhaust valve prone to failure)
• spring needs to be so strong due to accel loads induced by profile type

Use modern oil with highest viscosity you can get. I.e. 20W-50 oder 10W-60.
